In anii ‘40 Adolph si Rudolf Dassler au gasit drumul spre succes, odata cu crearea celor doua marci care i-au facut celebri (Rudolf a creat marca Puma, iar fratele sau, celebra marca Adidas).
Puma a fost infiintata in 1948, iar prima pereche de pantofi sport marca Puma scoasa pe piata a fost Atom, special creata pentru fotbal.
Nu mult dupa acest moment, multi atleti au inceput sa poarte Puma in cadrul unor evenimente sportive importante.
 
• In 1952, atletul Josef Barthel a castigat Medalia Olimpica de Aur, purtand pantofi sport Puma.
• In 1956, a fost introdus actualul logo Puma, iar, in acelasi an, Tommie Smith a castigat medalia olimpica de aur pentru 200m in Mexic, purtand, de asemenea, pantofi sport Puma.
Alti atleti care au purtat Puma sunt: Diego Maradona, Boris Becker, care semneaza modelele “Puma Beck Ace”.
